Eric Perramond –
Southwest (U.S.)
Research
My academic training and personal research interests are
squarely focused on human-environment relationships in what might be called the
Greater Southwest (including parts of Northern Mexico).
Over the last decade, I have addressed issues of agricultural, biological and
cultural diversity in reservation settings (Zuni) and how particular groups
have responded to U.S.
federal policies and international border issues for their basic livelihoods.
My current plans are to begin new research, largely community-based and
centered, in northern New Mexico
over the next several years (2005-07).
These smaller projects will address issues of resource access, equity,
and policy dimensions among multiple users and agencies. They will also focus
on the juncture of the Southwest’s “three cultures” (Amerindians, Anglo, Hispano-Mexicano) and how each has
articulated a peculiar relationship with their environmental, social and
political settings.
