Objectives for This Course

Words of  Wisdom from Lao Tse,
A Daoist Teacher*

To teach people, walk beside them....
As for the best teachers, the people do not notice their existence.
The next best, the people honor and praise.
The next, the people fear;
and the next, the people hate....
When the best teacher's work is done,
the people say "We did it ourselves."

*(In this saying, I have substituted the word "teacher"
for the word "leader."
You could substitute "student" for "people.")

During the first week of the class please write out your objectives in taking this course and e-mail them to me at kkester@coloradocollege.edu.  I would like to receive them by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday.  Thanks!   Keith's main objectives are:

1. To enable the students in the course to master the theories/concepts listed in the accompanying Learning Aid Evaluation form provided at the beginning of the course.

2. To increase your self-learning abilities (as soon-to-graduate seniors, or well-prepared juniors becoming seniors).

3. To enable you take responsibility for and ownership of the knowledge that you have constructed.

4. To encourage you to continually test the knowledge you have constructed

5. To distribute the course work load as equitably as possible over the entire course.

Ted shares those objectives, #5 most especially. He intends in addition that you should extend your talents at tackling lab manipulations that require you to be a wise inventor and a careful planner.
