San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Most of my research is centered on human skeletal remains from San Pedro de Atacama, in northern Chile. A small town, located in a series of oases at the confluence of two rivers, the San Pedro area has been continuously inhabited for the last millennia. The peoples and cultures of the Chilean Atacama were subject to numerous outside influences including the Bolivian Altiplano state of Tiwanaku and the Inka Empire. Despite this, they maintained a strong cultural identity.

Modern San Pedro is a thriving community with a mix of peoples and traditions, and a beautiful and welcoming place to work and live.
